They started an outreach program

They started an outreach program, going to distant barangays to educate small villages. I made PowerPoints, in English and Tagalog (obviously with grammatical help), for each major disability, adding photos of the children we served. On the weekends, we borrowed the projector from CSWD (the city social welfare office) and drove in the dilapidated bird-egg blue multicab for hours to meet with parents, local government officials, and children. Sometimes the CSWD needed the projector and we went without it. Sometimes we had the projector, but the electricity failed and there was no slide show. Sometimes we had car problems. Sometimes the weather was inclement, as in ‘pre-typhoon.’ But the barangay would always serve us lunch and people seemed thankful for the little we could provide, with me being the circus curio for the townspeople."
